The Estanque Grande del Buen Retiro, popularly known as the Estanque del Retiro, is an extension of water of artificial origin, which is located in the Retiro Park, in the Spanish city of Madrid. Today one of the great tourist attractions of the city but few people know that the original function was to serve as a stage to simulate naval battles and aquatic shows in which the monarch often participated.
